A member of the City Council for Sports and Youth, Tatjana Medved, opened the 21. International Karate Tournament “Friendship Cup” in the small hall of the Sports and Business Center “Vojvodina”, organized by Karate Club “Mawashi”.
She pointed out that this tournament is one of the most massive sports events held in Novi Sad, gathering about 1000 competitors from eight European countries, which once again confirmed the international importance of this sports event.
For more than two decades, the “Friendship Cup” tournament has been gathering karate players of different generations, encouraging the development of martial arts. It also plays an important role in encouraging young people to engage in physical activity. In addition to the competitive aspect, this event is of great importance in promoting culture, friendship and understanding among young people from different countries. It is through such events that Novi Sad has shown that it is a city that nurtures the spirit of sportsmanship and provides support to young talents, but also a city that is recognized on the sports map of Europe, which contributed to winning the flattering title of “European City of Sport 2026” – said Tatjana Medved.
As before, the City of Novi Sad will continue to invest in sports infrastructure, support the development of school, recreational and professional sports and encourage healthy lifestyles among young people.
