Tatjana Medved opened the international cycling race 'Gran Fondo Novi Sad 2025'

The international cycling race 'Gran Fondo Novi Sad 2025', which is held as part of the qualifications for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championship, started today on Mihajlo Pupin Boulevard, in front of the building of the Provincial Government in Novi Sad. Participants from over 40 countries were greeted at the start of the race by a member of the City Council for Sports and Youth, Tatjana Medved.

Today, Novi Sad is a meeting place for 500 cyclists from Europe and the world, as well as a large number of guests, sports enthusiasts, recreationists and families who share the values of healthy living and respect for nature. I am glad that this international sports event is taking place in Novi Sad for the second time. Novi Sad is a city of sports and a city of cyclists. A city that can boast of 150 kilometers of bicycle paths, of which 50 km of new trails have been built in the last 13 years. The city has about 50,000 cyclists, and with over 69 million dinars, in the last four years, we have supported the purchase of 6,336 bicycles for Novi Sad. Over 200 sports events are held in Novi Sad, and significant funds are allocated for the development of sports infrastructure and support for sports, which is why we have applied for the title of European City of Sport 2026, and I am convinced that the Gran Fondo race will contribute to our candidacy. What is quite certain is that the participants of the race, will take the most beautiful impressions from our city and from our beautiful Fruška Gora. I wish us all a wonderful day in nature and in a good mood - emphasized Tatjana Medved.

The international race will start in Novi Sad, the competitors will cross the Danube, visit a large part of Fruška Gora, and finally return to the finish line, in Novi Sad. The promoter of the race is the world-famous cyclist Ivan Basso.

The organizers of the event are the Cycling Association "Invictabike" and the Vojvodina Association of Cycling Clubs, with the support of the Cycling Association of Serbia. The race is held under the auspices of the World Cycling Union (UCI).

More than 1,000 competitors at the start of the Invictus Challenge

A member of the City Council for Sports and Youth attended the opening of the "Invictus Challenge" competition, which began today on the Novi Sad beach "Strand". The competition is organized by the sports association "Invictus NS 021" with the support of the City of Novi Sad.

"The City of Novi Sad has recognized this competition as an event of special importance, because it represents a unique event in the region, and we are proud to support it through the Sports and Youth Directorate. For this event, which promotes physical activity and a healthy lifestyle, 1.7 million dinars have been allocated from the City budget. I am sure that the participants will show excellent physical and mental fitness today because this race presents exciting challenges that combine running and overcoming obstacles," said Tatjana Medved.

This year's trail on Strand is one kilometer long and features more than 35 carefully designed obstacles such as carrying sacks, crawling on sand and in water, jumping over obstacles, rope climbing for men, lifting loads for women and jumping from platforms. Each participant at the finish line receives a well-deserved medal, a symbol of personal victory and perseverance, regardless of the result.

Medals awarded to the participants of the Youth Sports Games in Novi Sad

Member of the City Council for Sports and Youth Tatjana Medved attended the closing ceremony of the Plazma Youth Sports Games, hosted by the City of Novi Sad, and the event was held in the SPENS Ice Hall. The Youth Sports Games are the largest event of amateur sports in Europe, which in its 29 years of existence in Croatia, 15 years in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 12 seasons in Serbia and two in Slovenia has gathered 3,088,000 children and young people.

“The City of Novi Sad continuously invests in sports infrastructure, provides support in the organization of major domestic and international championships, competitions, tournaments, supports the sports programs of all sports organizations and contributes to the achievement of their goals and the achievement of top sports results. All this contributed to Novi Sad being a candidate for the title of ‘European City of Sport 2026’. Youth Sports Games, in addition to bringing together children and young people from the region, nurture healthy lifestyle habits, the spirit of fair play, friendship among participants, as well as respect for all kinds of diversity,” said Tatjana Medved, adding that the City will continue to support this important sports event in the future.

After a day-long competition of elementary school children in futsal, athletics, 3×3 basketball, volleyball and between two fires, the most successful teams and individuals were awarded medals and the flame of friendship was lit, modeled on the Olympic Games. In the 12th season of the Plazma Youth Sports Games in Serbia, competitions were organized in 200 cities and towns across Serbia, with over 100,000 participants.

Support to the champions: Mayor Mićin on strengthening the cooperation of the city with the water polo club "Vojvodina"

Mayor of Novi Sad Žarko Mićin and Member of the City Council for Sports and Youth Tatjana Medved met today at the City Hall with representatives of the Water Polo Club ‘Vojvodina’. The delegation consisted of the president of the Club Srdjan Miljanic, the director of the Club Vojislav Jovanovic and the head of the professional staff of the women’s selections of VK “Vojvodina” Slađana Drezgić. At the meeting, they discussed the modalities of improving the successful cooperation so far, the upcoming performance of the Serbian women’s water polo team at the qualifications for the European Championship in Novi Sad, as well as the celebration of an important jubilee – 90 years since the founding of the club.

“I always look forward to meeting sports workers and athletes, and we are especially proud of the successes of the water polo club “Vojvodina,” from which five Olympic gold medalists have emerged. Both the men’s and women’s teams of this Club have continuously achieved outstanding results, especially since the 1990s. They perform at the highest level in our country, and have notable success on the European scene. VK “Vojvodina” celebrates 90 years of nurturing water polo in Novi Sad and their contribution to the community is more than exceptional. Our city aspires to be the European City of Sport in 2026, and on the way to that title, the tradition and activities of this successful club will certainly contribute to us – emphasized Mayor Žarko Mićin and added – The city will continue to be a partner to sports workers and to support sports, both by investing in infrastructure, and through support to clubs, promotion of school sports, recreation and physical activity.

Representatives of the Water Polo Club “Vojvodina” thanked the Mayor for the warm reception and the opportunity to discuss important issues for Novi Sad Water Polo. They emphasized that the Club currently has 300 members who regularly train and perform, as well as that they are the basis of the work of the Club of the younger category.

Event "Days of Sport Futog" has been opened

Member of the City Council for Sports and Youth, Tatjana Medved, attended the event “Days of Sport” held at the Sports Center in Futog. The event was organised by the City Sports Association and the School Sports Association of the City of Novi Sad in order to promote sports activities among children and young people, namely handball, children’s athletics, basketball, volleyball and water sports.

“Today, this beautiful sports complex with a swimming pool has been given a great opportunity to become a training ground for the promotion of school sports. With this significant investment, the City has shown that it cares about ensuring the same quality of life in the city and in the suburbs. Here today, we are not only promoting sport, but also the values it carries – fair play, team spirit and perseverance. I am delighted with the energy and interest of children and young people, and events like this show how important it is to invest in sports infrastructure and work with children and young people. With its policy and actions, the City of Novi Sad unconditionally nurtures all sports and sports disciplines in all ages, categories, and especially work with children and persons with disabilities, from recreation to professional sports, providing maximum support at all levels – said Tatjana Medved.

Basketball Club “Futog 1276”, Volleyball Club “Futog Volley”, Athletic Club “Borac Futog”, Handball Club “Metalac”, Water Polo Club “Vojvodina” and Sports Association “Water Sports” promoted their sports disciplines during the day. Visitors also had the opportunity to get directly involved in sports activities, and special games and competitions were organized for children. The event ended with the awarding of medals and T-shirts to the participants and clubs.

The 5th U.S. Athletics Championship in Futog

Member of the City Council for Sports and Youth, Tatjana Medved, attended the opening of the 5th School Sports Competition in Athletics “School Days on the Athletic Track”, which was held on the athletic track of the Elementary School “Desanka Maksimović” in Futog. The competition is organized by the Athletic Sports Association “Borac Futog” with the support of the City of Novi Sad.

“This school sports competition in athletics will bring together over 500 children of preschool and school age, in all age categories, who will compete by age on athletic tracks in the form of cross country races, for gold, silver and bronze medals, and children will be awarded with diplomas up to the fifth place. The goal of this competition is to motivate children and parents to get involved in sports as much as possible, and to promote athletics, the “queen of sports” as key to the development and preparation of children for other sports, the overall psychophysical development of children, the development of individuality, self-discipline and the desire for success. With this sports competition in athletics, we primarily have a mission to interest children in sports in general,” said Tatjana Medved.

She added that the City once again stimulated the competition with financial resources by allocating 400,000 dinars from the budget for the programs of the Athletic Sports Association “Borac Futog,” and this year funds in the total amount of 20,350,000 dinars were approved for school sports.

This cross country race is held twice a year in spring and autumn with the aim of getting as many children interested as possible in sports.

A new swimming pool in Futog will start operating on Wednesday

The Olympic swimming pool in Futog will open on Wednesday, May 21 at 12 noon. It is a modern sports and recreational facility that provides quality conditions for swimming and recreation for all generations.

On weekdays and weekends,
the pool will be open to recreational cyclists from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., then from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., then from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. there are shifts for pensioners. On weekends, the pool is open from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tickets will be sold at the pool box office just before entering.
Tatjana Medved, a member of the City Council for Sports and Youth, points out that this is a very important investment.
– Citizens of Futoga, Begec, Veternik, but also Adice and Novo naselje will be able to perform their recreational, sports and professional activities in the new Olympic swimming pool from Wednesday. The swimming pool will be managed by JP SPC “Vojvodina”, which has the experience and resources to manage such a facility in its activities and business program. The City of Novi Sad will continue to invest in the development of sports infrastructure,” said Tatjana Medved.

START OF THE 48TH FRUŠKA GORA MOUNTAINEERING MARATHON ON APRIL 26 AT 9.00 AM IN POPOVICA

Member of the City Council for Sports and Youth, Tatjana Medved, attended the press conference on the occasion of the 48th International Youth Conference. Fruška Gora Mountaineering Marathon, which will be held 26. and on April 27 on the slopes of Fruška Gora. The event is organized by the Mountaineering and Skiing Association "Železničar", with the support of the City of Novi Sad.

"47 years have passed since the first Fruška Gora Marathon was held, and that is why this event occupies a special place on the map of sports events and is an event of special importance for the City of Novi Sad, because it promotes healthy lifestyles and values that empower us on the way to success. Many generations of citizens of Novi Sad and other visitors have visited the slopes of Fruška Gora and thus become part of the history of the Fruška Gora Marathon. Those who come for the first time, at the very beginning, testify to the justified popularity of this event among all lovers of sports, recreation and nature. That is why I am sure that this year's Fruška Gora Marathon will be a true pleasure for all participants and that after the race we will leave Fruška Gora clean and preserved," said Tatjana Medved, adding that the City of Novi Sad has allocated one million dinars from the budget for this event, and that it will continue to support.

As it was said at the conference, the start of the marathon is scheduled for Saturday, April 26 at 9:00 a.m. in front of the Mountain Lodge in Popovica. For the first day of the marathon, 14 trails have been prepared, of different lengths and different altitude differences. On Sunday, April 27, at 11:30 a.m., the start of the Children's Mountaineering Marathon is planned for children of preschool and elementary school age. During the marathon, a restrictive traffic regime will be in force, about which the public will be informed in a timely manner, and transport of all participants from the bus station will be provided.

The conference was also attended by the director of the Fruška Gora Marathon, Nenad Sudarov, the assistant director of the Fruška Gora National Park, Dragan Vidovic, and the president of the Mountaineering Association of Serbia, Iso Planić.
